New to hockey skating?
If you’re an adult interested in playing hockey but want to first learn the fundamentals of skating, we recommend starting with our Learn to Skate (LTS) program. You’ll learn essential skills that help build confidence and control on the ice before transitioning into hockey.
What you can expect from Adult LTS:
Progressive Skill Development: Start with basics like balancing, stopping, and gliding, then advance to more complex maneuvers.
Six Levels of Instruction: Move at your own pace from beginner to advanced techniques
A Strong Foundation: Gain the agility, speed, and control needed for hockey
Upon completing Adult Learn to Skate, you’ll feel more comfortable on the ice and be ready to transition into our Adult Learn to Play (Ice Breakers) League or Clinics.

Adult League 🏆
Reno Ice offers year-round, high-energy Adult League games that are popular with hockey players of varying skill levels.
-
Season Structure
Spring: All leagues
Summer: B, C, D, E
Fall: A, C, E
Winter: A, B, D
-
*Note: All games are recorded on LiveBarn and archived.
All on-ice USA Hockey rules apply, including:
Any head contact will result in immediate game ejection (possible suspension to be decided by league manager).
Abuse of officials will result in immediate game ejection and suspension.
No checking! Any body contact HIGHLY discouraged and intention MUST be to play the puck in discretion of referee.
All players must be 18+ years old.
You must have an active USA Hockey registration to play (memberships expire annually on August 31). All players need to have a current USAH Number (that changes year to year) every season they wish to participate in the Reno Ice Adult League—as a sub or rostered player. This number must be input in the link at the top of this page before they can play in a game as a sub.
All players must wear full hockey equipment including face protection—either full or half shield is REQUIRED. Players are not mandated to wear shoulder pads.
Tied games go to a 3 person shootout. If there is no winner after 3 shooters, then both teams will shoot once each until one team scores and the other does not.
No team is allowed to have a roster or sub from a skip league (two leagues above).
Each team is allowed one upper division player to roster with their team. During the regular season they are also allowed one upper division sub as well (for two total). During playoffs, only the roster player is permitted.
Subs are only allowed if the rostered team is below 13 skaters. If a team is below 13 rostered skaters you are allowed to add subs as long as the team does not go over 13 combined skaters (13 skaters + 1 goalie = 14 total).
Any violations of these rules result in a possible loss of game(s).
-
ANY 3 penalties to the same player in the same game will result in an immediate ejection.
ANY ejection results in an automatic 1-game suspension, with a review for more.
Suspensions are possible with and without a penalty called and can be of any length the disciplinary committee deems fit.
Repeat offenders will serve progressively longer suspensions.
Three 20-minute running time periods (last five minutes stop time if within 3 goals)
NHL point system: 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie
Overtime: 5-minute 4-on-4, then 3-person shootout
Tie-breakers: head-to-head record, fewest penalty minutes, fewest goals against, and then the most goals for.
