League Rules

*Note:   All games are recorded on LiveBarn and archived

1.  On ice USA Hockey rules apply, including:

  • Any head contact will result in immediate game ejection (possible suspension to be decided by league manager)

  • Abuse of officials will result in immediate game ejection and suspension

  • No checking!  Any body contact HIGHLY discouraged and intention MUST be to play the puck in discretion of referee.

2.  All players must be 18+

3.  All players must have a current registration with USA Hockey (insurance)—this expires on August 31st annually. All players need to have a current USAH Number (that changes year to year) every season they wish to participate in the Reno Ice Adult League—as a sub or rostered player. This number must be input in the link at the top of this page before they can play in a game as a sub.

4.  All players must wear full Hockey equipment including face protection--either full or half shield  is REQUIRED.  Players are not mandated to wear shoulder pads.

5. Tied games go to a 3 person shootout.  If there is no winner after 3 shooters, then both teams will shoot once each until one team scores and the other does not.

6.  Points system:

NHL point system is used. Two points for a win, one point for a tie.

Tie breakers for team standings is best head to head record, fewest penalty minutes, fewest goals against, and then most goals for.  A puck flip if all of those are tied.

7. Subs (Regular Season)

If a team has a minimum of 13 rostered skaters show for a game, no subs are allowed, if a team is below 13 rostered skaters you are allowed to add subs as long as the team does not go over 13 combined skaters (13 skaters + 1 goalie = 14 total).

8. Upper Division Players (Regular Season)

Each team is allowed 1 rostered and 1 sub (2 total) upper division player from the immediate league above. A->B, B->C, C->D, D->E. No team may have 3 or more players in any a capacity and will result in a forfeit and/or automatic loss of points.

9. Skip league Players (2 leagues above)

No team is allowed to have a roster or sub from a skip league at all. For example, A->C, B->D, C->E.

10. Playoff Players

No team is allowed to have subs during playoffs from any league. You must only compete with your rostered team. You are not allowed the 1 upper division sub during playoffs. You are only allowed the 1 rostered upper division player.

Any violations of theses rules results in a possible loss of game(s).

Game Rules

ANY 3 penalties to the same player in the same game results in an immediate ejection.

ANY ejection results in an automatic 1 game suspension, with review for more.

Suspensions are possible with and without a penalty called and can be any length the disciplinary committee deems fit.

Repeat offenders will serve progressively longer suspensions.

All games have a five minute warmup and three 20 minute running time periods (last five minutes of the game are stop time with a goal differential of 3 or fewer).  If a team is down by 4 and scores a goal, stop time resumes.

1. Top four teams make playoffs in each league.

2. In case of a tie in the standings, the highest seed goes to team with (in order of importance): best head to head record, fewest penalty minutes, fewest goals against and then the most goals for.

Playoffs

Overtime will be a 5 minute 4 on 4 followed by a 3 person shootout if needed.  If there is no winner after that, each team gets 1 shooter per round until 1 team scores and the other does not.
